About The Course:

Thirty-year-old Sydney Smith is recovering from an accident and has been undergoing physical therapy. Couple of  weeks into the sessions, Sydney is here for a Goniometry assessment to gauge the extent of recovery.

This VR simulation is designed to help healthcare practitioners practice the use of a Goniometer in a virtual environment. Practicing with a virtual patient helps solidify skills and gain perfection.

Learning Objectives:
  • Defining goniometry and explaining its role in assessing joint range of motion
  • Identifying and locating key anatomical landmarks essential for accurate goniometric measurements
  • Performing goniometric assessments on various joints

Core Skills Training

Performing Goniometry Assessment

As a part of the Goniometry Assessment simulation the user will begin by confirming the patient’s identity and performing hand hygiene. The learner will proceed with the assessment of the knees, hip joints and ankles, carefully aligning the fulcrum, stationary arm and moveable arm on each joint to get a reading. Having performed the assessment, the results need to be compared with reference to a normal range of motion, given the patients age, activity level, and health status.
All necessary affordances are provided to complete the procedure with efficiency.

Training

With prompts, guidance and affordances learners are hand-held through the process to practice the procedure in a virtual environment with a virtual patient.

  • Photorealistic virtual environment
  • Physics-based interactions
  • Detailed instructions
  • Adequate affordances to assist in task completion

Assessment

Test acquired skills to perform the procedures from start to finish without prompts. An incorrect step will take the learner back to the start to start afresh.

  • Live scoring
  • Instant feedback
  • Adequate affordances for efficient performance
  • Time tracking to monitor activity completion
