About The Course:

Stephanie Cruz, 31-year-old female, is here to get an IUD insertion. An IUD or intrauterine device is an effective contraceptive chosen by many women. 

This VR simulation for IUD insertion is designed to help healthcare practitioners practice the procedure with a virtual patient in a safe and controlled virtual environment. With both training and assessment modes, learners can perform the procedure and assess themselves on their performance.

Core Skills Training

IUD Insertion

As a part of this IUD Insertion procedure, the user will begin by confirming the patient’s name and date of birth and enquiring about any known allergies. The learner will then inform the patient of the procedure and the possible risks and side-effects associated with it. After informing and educating the patient, the learner will conduct a bimanual exam to check the position of the uterus. The learner will then proceed with the insertion procedure which includes stabilizing the cervix, preparing the IUD insertion tube and inserter and finally inserting the IUD. After ensuring that the strings are completely unlocked from the notch the inserter is removed completely.
All necessary affordances are provided to complete the procedure with efficiency.


With prompts, guidance and affordances learners are hand-held through the process to practice the procedure in a virtual environment with a virtual patient.
