About The Course:

Jacob Smith is 40 years old. He was accidentally hit and now his wound needs to be closed using a simple interrupted suture. The procedure is a fairly simple one but requires precision.

This clinical procedure simulation is designed to provide learners practice in closing wounds using simple interrupted suture. Both training and assessment modes are available that help practice and assess the skills.

Learning Objectives:
  • Perform irrigation and prepare the laceration for closure
  • Gather and correctly prepare supplies
  • Close laceration using simple interrupted sutures

Core Skills Training

Simple Interrupted Suture

In this VR simulation, the learner will begin the procedure by confirming the identity of the patient and informing the patient about the procedure. The learner will then proceed with the procedure which will involve washing the wound, opening the kit using sterile technique, injecting the patient and suturing the wound. Once complete, the learner will dispose the needle in the sharps bin.
The simulation is equipped with all affordances required for the procedure.

Training

With prompts, guidance and affordances learners are hand-held through the process to practice the procedure in a virtual environment with a virtual patient.

  • Photorealistic virtual environment
  • Physics-based interactions
  • Detailed instructions
  • Adequate affordances to assist in task completion

Assessment

Test acquired skills to perform the procedures from start to finish without prompts. An incorrect step will take the learner back to the start to start afresh.

  • Live scoring
  • Instant feedback
  • Adequate affordances for efficient performance
  • Time tracking to monitor activity completion
