About The Course:

Surgical hand antisepsis is a routine process carried out before undertaking any invasive procedure. The purpose of the hand antisepsis procedure is to destroy, as well as, prevent the growth of micro-organisms in order to ensure a safe and hygienic surgical procedure.

This VR simulation is designed to provide learners practice in performing surgical hand antisepsis and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).

Core Skills Training

Donning Surgical Attire

Before donning the surgical attire all possible items of contamination need to be removed and hand hygiene performed. In this module, learners are guided through steps involving removal of possible items of contamination like watches, jewelry, apparels worn to the hospital etc. Hand hygiene is performed followed by donning head cover and scrub suit. All necessary affordances are made available to the learners to help practice and perform the tasks effectively and with efficiency.

Performing Hand Antisepsis

A systematic and procedural method is followed for effective hand antisepsis. This involves thorough cleaning of nails, scrubbing all areas of the hands and arms following defined steps, and rinsing in the correct manner. After scrubbing, water needs to be allowed to drip off the elbows. The module is equipped with all necessary affordances required for the procedure with detailed instructions to perform every step efficiently.

Training

With prompts, guidance and affordances learners are hand-held through the process to practice the procedure in a virtual environment with a virtual patient.

Assessment
