About The Course:

This simulation is designed to provide hands-on experience in essential NRP equipment used in a neonatal resuscitation procedure. The focus is on demonstrating correct handling of each tool, ensuring healthcare providers can identify and exhibit knowledge of appropriate use of all items needed in neonatal emergencies.

Designed for physicians, nurses, and respiratory therapists at both novice and expert levels, this simulation provides a structured walkthrough of correct usage of resuscitation equipment helping learners practice inspection and use of each device during procedures.

Learning Objectives:
  • Using neonatal monitoring devices (cardiac monitor, pulse oximeter, temperature probe, BP cuff) to accurately measure and record vital parameters
  • Demonstrating correct use of airway management tools (PPV device, laryngoscope, suction devices, ETT) to ensure effective ventilation and airway clearance
  • Applying thermal support equipment (baby warmer, thermal mattress, NeoGuard, blankets) to maintain the neonate’s optimal body temperature
  • Using emergency medication delivery equipment (UVC tray, epinephrine syringes, umbilical catheter) to administer drugs safely during neonatal emergencies

Core Skills Training

NRP Equipment Review

As part of the simulation, learners are guided through the inspection of key neonatal resuscitation equipment. The process emphasizes hands-on interaction, allowing learners to:
1. Use Monitoring Devices – operate the cardiac/respiratory monitor, temperature sensors, BP cuffs, and pulse oximeter to assess and record neonatal vital signs accurately.
2. Use Airway Tools – handle the laryngoscope, ETT, PPV devices, and suction systems (bulb syringe, DeLee catheter, suction tubing) correctly to maintain a clear and open airway.
3. Use Thermal Support Tools – operate the baby warmer, thermal mattress, and NeoGuard, and apply supporting items such as hats and blankets to ensure adequate thermal regulation.
4. Use Medication & Access Equipment – prepare and use prefilled epinephrine syringes, UVC tray, umbilical clamps, and dosage calculation references for safe medication delivery and access management.
All essential equipment is presented in a fully interactive virtual environment, enabling learners to practice step-by-step inspection and setup in accordance with NRP standards.

Training

With prompts, guidance and affordances learners are hand-held through the process to practice the procedure in a virtual environment with a virtual patient.
